Why Dogs Don’t Like Being Groomed
All dogs require grooming. It helps keep the hair clean, healthy and clear. But a lot of dogs do not enjoy the grooming process. Well the answer to that is a bit complicated, but there are few reasons for this.
Sensitivity to Touch
Dogs are sensitive to touch. To them, when you brush their fur or cut loose nails it feels weird. There are some dogs that do not like what it feels like to have a brush against their skin. They may squirm and try to get away. Not that they are bad dogs. They just feel uncomfortable.
Scary Sounds and Tools
Some grooming tools are noisy. Clippers buzz a noise, which you may not love; it will startle your dog. The noise that this machine emits is something many dogs do not seem to enjoy. It could be a cause of their feeling worry. The clipper itself, or the vibrations of being on a grooming table etc. may be new to them as well. Fear of this causes the grooming process itself to be stressful.
Lack of Control
A dog needs to be still while you are grooming it. Dogs like to walk about and check things out sometimes. And when you are trapped, it can get very frustrating The dogs are never quite sure what you’re up to. They want autonomy — to inhabit their own places and positions.
Not Snipping Their Whiskers!
One big mistake that people make is trimming a dog’s whiskers. Your dog needs those whiskers. They give dogs a feel for how to move about in the world, and an understanding of space. It can confuse them when you cut their whiskers off. But they may not feel stable or secure. Their whiskers should always be left as-they-are.
Making Grooming Better
Making grooming a happy experience will help your dog to enjoy being groomed. Start slowly. Give them a chance to sniff the brushes and tools. Occasionally feed treats or provide praise while grooming This creates trust and makes them feel secure. Grooming may well become one of your dog’s most favorite activities with time!
To summarize, dogs might hate grooming for many factors. And If you understand why, it can make a big difference in your patience level. Don’t forget to be kind and brush your dog’s whiskers Oh!
