A Lonely Birthday for the Cat
One thing we do each year is celebrate our birthdays. A by all means joyous and eventful day. Please forward as appropriate when you are not doing so: Cake, friends and lots of wishes However, for one tiny cat — this birthday was not the same.
A Sad Birthday
The cat woke up on its birthday feeling excited. It hoped to see friends and hear happy birthday wishes. But as the day went on, nothing happened. No friends knocked on the door. No family members came to play. The cat looked around and felt more alone.
The cat moped around the house, wondering why no one would remember its birthday. She turned to the window, and saw children running around chasing birds. The cat wished it could be with them but instead sat alone on the couch.
Feeling Forgotten
The sun crept across the sky and, lo, another day beckoned — but not a soul came. The cat wondered how many birthdays it had seen What it remembered were the cakes and games. The only other memory it held was that of delight. With creating bonds with people like itself, laughing and socializing for hours. That day, however, was quiet.
“No birthday wishes? No cake? Am I really that alone?” the cat wondered. Tears began to fill its eyes. The cat felt as though nobody loved them.
A Surprise at Last
The cat was now at the point where it felt that all everything in his day had been tragic and then he heard a noise. That door opened and it’s favorite person walked in. The person was smiling brightly and held a small box.
My baby friend, Happy Birthday! they cheered. The cat looked up surprised. It even picked up the tiny tinkle of a bell. He opened the package to find a snack and miniature treasure.
The cat felt his heart soar. Jumping around, it let out loud purrs. It thinks it was finally happy on its birthday.
Remembering the Day
The cat discovered an important lesson from that day forward and its one you all should know, sometimes surprises happen when we least anticipate them. Grateful for their special day, satisfied to find it was not so alone after all. Now, the cat always says Happy Birthday too!
