Mabel’s Daring Escape

What was supposed to be Mabel’s great escape became a knock-down-drag-out fight for her life. Upon her neck she coldly sensed a grasp. Round her pretty little throat a long, slippery snake. The shock left Mabel trembling, unsure of what to do. Heart pounding, she struggled to remember.

The Snake’s Grip

And not just any snake. It was a big boa constrictor. The interior of the python was pressing on her skin. She remembered her mother telling you to remain calm in a difficult situation. Thinking Fast

Mabel looked around for help. She noticed some trees and considered climbing to escape. However, she was hardly mobile with the snake clinging to her neck. When instead, she tried to break the snake’s hold. She shook her head trying to rid herself of the sensation She also pushed against the snake with her hands.

A Chance for Freedom

At that very moment, Mabel heard a gruff sound. A dog barked from a distance. The sound startled the snake. And for an instant, the pain relaxed. By now Mabel was able to pull the snake backwards and down her body off of its position on top ofher neck. And she fought the snake with all of her might to push it off. It ran off through the underbrush just as fast.

Safe at Last

Mabel was free! She dropped into the dirt, gasping for air and convulsing. Relief flooded through her. She had escaped the snake! Mabel knew she was lucky. She had a lesson that day, to keep cool and focused. She was ready to burst with things she needed to tell her family when she ran back home.
