A Little Rescue

A Sad Discovery

I found him today. He was small, he seemed so vulnerable and looked to be freezing cold in the world. He seemed so small now, stranded, alone with no one to trust him home again. My heart sank into the pit of my stomach when I found his tiny form huddled at in a corner. He was too weak to scream for assistance.

A Gentle Touch

I started walking towards him and suddenly a wave of sorrow overtook me. I knew I had to help. I scooped him gently with my hands, cradling him. He felt so free, that he would lift off and float away like a balloon to the sky. I watched his tiny chest slowly rise and fall, gasping for air. Soft words I whispered to my sweet dog, trying to make him feel better.

Bringing Him to Safety

Carefully, I took him home. I found a box and put some soft cloth in it so he would have somewhere warm to sleep. I knew he was hungry, so I offered him a glass of warm milk at the same time. Hope twinkled when he swallowed a gulp. It was a baby step, but it felt like a path to healing.

A New Beginning

I watched him getting stronger everyday. He began to open his eyes and move around a bit in the tiny area he inhabited. This was the boy who had brought light in my life, and so I decided to name him Hope. He got playful as he started trusting me. Seeing him chase tiny toys and nap in the warm sun made me smile.

The Joy of Helping

Caring for him has filled my heart. I saved him from being cold and alone — that makes every second worth it. Hope is not alone any longer, he has a loving and safe home now. The bond shared with us helps me remember that the smallest of beings can bring about the most joy.
