Adopted a Depressed Cat
Deciding to bring a pet into your life. So I decided to get a cat recently. I didn’t want just any cat; I wanted a mending heart that needed love. I spotted a cat looking rather glum. I found out she has been at the shelter for so long. I named her Mia.
Understanding Mia’s Feelings
Mia did not play or explore when I first brought her home. She hid under the couch. I saw the fear and solitude in her eyes. It broke my heart. I knew she was settling in. So, I gave her space. She came out when she was ready.
Creating a Safe Environment
I turned my home into a place where Mia could heal. In the living room, I placed a cosy bed in one corner of it. I also got her some toys. I ended up buying a scratching post and some colorful balls. I wanted her to be relaxed about and satisfied with her new digs.
Building Trust
Mia and I used to have a quiet conversation, sitting on the floor all day long. I did not rush her. Gradually, she began to believe in me. After our little vacuum aired out she finally made her escape form under the couch and started to look around. She once even played with a ball! It was a pleasure to see her happiness.
Creating a Routine
After a while, I saw that Mia preferred predictability. I always fed her at the same time each day. I played with her for awhile. She got cuddles when they were on offer. It helped her to feel somewhat secure on a routine basis.
The Journey Forward
Mia, now Mia is not this sad cat anymore She purrs when I pet her. She dances around and rages with her toys. Adopting Mia was definitely one of the best decisions I ever made. I watch her smile every day and I’m grateful that she had a shot at happiness.
